When Charlotte was studying Theology and Religious Studies at York St John University, she managed to land herself with a part time job in Scott's of York butcher's shop. This unusual choice of student job turned out to be most serendipitous, leading to a radical change of direction in life after graduating from University.
From being a counter girl at Scott's, Charlotte made her bones in her early twenties as an apprentice in two of London's most prestigious butchers, Lidgates and O'Sheas.
After two years of being an apprentice she made the - in her own words - 'ridiculous, blind leap of faith' and became the hands-on proprietor of her very own shop, Charlotte's Butchery, in Gosforth, Newcastle.
She has made numerous TV and radio appearances, with Jamie Oliver, on Jimmy's Farm, Country File, Vice's Munchies and she is the go-to butcher for Channel 4's Sunday Brunch.
Charlotte is working on her first book, a memoir of her extraordinary life spent as a female butcher, which takes a behind the scenes look at the madness and mayhem of butchery, together with a deeply creative look at the meat industry, and her best myth-busting advice to help guide us in our attitudes - pragmatic, ethical and gastronomical - towards all things meat related: where to buy it, how to ask for it, where it comes from, and what becomes of it.
