Although he now lives happily ever after with his lovely little family, Jim Beckett has managed to preserve a sense of ennui and angst cultivated over years of mild disappointment. Having suffered from a persistent urge to write ever since he got his first pair of glasses aged seven, Jim repeatedly draws on the few things he can remember from his moderately comfortable suburban childhood.
He has written in many forms - short stories, poetry, plays, sitcoms, rock opera, satirical blogs, pantomime, stand-up, sketch, musical theatre, short films, postmodern dystopian farce - and particularly favours the eulogy and the funny song. Yet it is the middle grade comedy adventure novel that most excites him, and he cannot wait to introduce his Caravan at the Edge of Doom to the world.
Jim is one half of acclaimed comedy double act, Bob and Jim, and is also an English teacher in a south London secondary school. His former students remember him fondly, even if the current lot aren’t too bothered.
