In 2005 after fifteen years working at the hard end of social care Karen and her husband left her birthplace of Pembrokeshire to travel the world building quirky properties just off the well- beaten tourist track.
From a villa in the jungle on a Mexican island to a boutique hotel in Turkey they specialised in one-off houses that fitted their landscape and gave the owners a chance to earn from their dreams.
In 2008, just as they completed their last project, Karen’s husband died suddenly. The world wide recession started the next day. It took Karen a long time to get home.
Whilst waiting hopefully for an economic upturn, Karen opened her home in Turkey to travellers from around the world, introducing them to the slow food, ever practical, self sufficient lifestyle of the small village that sheltered and supported her. She also wrote on economics and business for everything, from Japanese think tanks to UK women entrepreneurs.
In 2014 Karen returned to Pembrokeshire, to the home she and her late husband had built, on the edge of the national park. She has, as he always said she would, filled the house with animals!
Karen is a Master Diver, keen photographer and tries to keep to the seasonal food, no waste, habits she developed in Turkey.
