Melanie originates from South Yorkshire and is the youngest child of a family so big it ought to be regarded as a tribe. Her earliest memory is standing with her brother on a street corner selling her dad's surplus vegetables from a trestle table.
After joining the Royal Air Force as an Air Traffic Control Officer in 1994, Melanie experienced a career that took her across the globe on military operations. After a spell working with the British Army in 2003, Melanie returned to the UK and transferred to the Royal Navy. After a short stint on HMS Invincible and two productive tours at Royal Navy Air Stations, Yeovilton and Culdrose, Melanie retired from the armed forces in 2010, moved to Dubai and began to write.
Desperate for green grass of home, Melanie returned to the UK two years later and now lives in Devon with her son.
Her debut novel, The Wedding Cake Tree, won the Romantic Novelists’ Association Contemporary Romantic Novel of the Year Award 2016.
