Emily Glenister
Director & Literary Agent
Emily Glenister trained to be an actress at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, graduating in 2010 before working as a theatrical agent and assistant in offices that represented the likes of Charlotte Rampling, Sir Roger Moore, Liv Ullmann and Max von Sydow.
In 2020, after assisting David Headley for four years in all aspects of the agency, Emily was made an Agent in 2020 before becoming a Director of the company in 2022.
Emily is looking for female-led commercial and book club fiction, with a very strong emphasis on diverse / own voices. She loves crime / psychological thrillers and is desperately searching for fresh and unique ideas in this area (such as Nikki May’s Wahala, Gillian McAllister’s Wrong Place, Wrong Time or The Club by Ellery Lloyd); witty, contemporary and observant romcoms (ie anything and everything by Mhairi McFarlane) and epic love stories are a personal favourite (those akin to Lucinda Riley's works or The Return by Anita Frank).
She is also on the lookout for smart and quick-witted historical fiction, with a female-focus (much like Philippa Gregory or Sarah Waters), and is a fan of a dual timeline narrative, if done well - as well as book club fiction along the lines of Jessie Burton, Taylor Jenkins Reid and R. F. Kuang's Yellowface. She is also partial to a little magical realism (think Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by VE Schwab).
Finally, if an original horror novel / ghost story landed in her inbox (for example, Riley Sager or C. J. Tudor), she would be utterly delighted as she’s a bit of a weirdo and loves to be creeped out.
In non-fiction, Emily is keen to expand her list and is looking in the areas of history (specifically the monarchy, medicine and women), pop culture, biographies / autobiographies / memoir (either from or about those with an established public platform) and most eagerly, true crime - like one of those addictive Netflix documentaries, but in book form.
Emily is not looking for police procedural, screenplays, children's books / YA or Sci-Fi.
