John Murray's Renegade jumps back to the 1990s for Adam Simcox’s gripping high-concept thriller Time Jump which has 'an unmissable twist on the beloved time travel genre'
Renegade Books, an imprint of John Murray Group, has signed Time Jump by Adam Simcox, 'a time-travelling thriller brimming with 1990s nostalgia’. The book has already received numerous endorsements, including from Janice Hallett, Sarah Pinborough, Gareth Brown and Nadine Matheson.
Alexa Allen-Batifoulier and Christina Demosthenous acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Harry Illingworth at DHH Literary Agency, and Renegade's Editor Saida Azizova will publish Time Jump in hardback this September.
According to the acquisition statement: 'The Ministry of Time meets Blake Crouch and Gillian McAllister, Time Jump is set in an alternate 2026, where time travel is a commodity to be bought like any other. When Rachel unexpectedly gets the chance to Time Jump, she grabs it, landing back in 1997, days before she accidentally killed Oliver Jones and destroyed her life.
When she rewrites fate and finds Oliver in 2026, an alive and thriving politician, the connection between them sparks into a fairy tale ending. But as rumours begin to circulate about young women going missing from Oliver's rehab centres, Rachel begins to suspect that perhaps the man she travelled back in time to save was a monster in waiting.’
'Adam Simcox is a London-based filmmaker and photographer who has worked with numerous high-end commercial clients, as well as shooting gigs featuring Jarvis Cocker, Hard-Fi, Huey Morgan, Echobelly and Soul Asylum. He began his career by writing and directing three feature films: the first sold to Netflix before Netflix was Netflix; the second and third won awards and critical acclaim at festivals worldwide, and so didn't sell at all.'
Simcox said: "Although time travel back to the 1990s is an appealing prospect (to a period when I had hair and no existential despair), I wouldn't change the here and now for anything. I feel lucky Time Jump's found such a welcoming home at Renegade, and luckier still that it's created such a buzz with my writing peers. I can't wait for readers to Time Jump with Rachel in September. Get your Adidas Sambas and Britpop boots ready...."
