The debut from Sarah Bonner, Her Perfect Twin, was chosen as one of the 'Best Mystery / Thriller Books of 2022' from Publishers' Weekly:

"The ingeniously twisty plot and complex characters set this above the psychological thriller pack."

Also in Publishers' Weekly last week, was Heather Darwent's forthcoming debut, The Things We Do To Our Friends:

"Deviously plotted . . . the characters . . . like a nest of vipers, are tough to take one’s eyes off of. Darwent is off to an auspicious start."

The book will be published in January 2023 by Viking (UK) and Ballantine (US).

The second book from bestselling author Becca Day, All Her Little Lies, was published last week.

Everyone's convinced her son is a killer, but Alex Forrester knows him best, doesn't she?

Cynthia and Alex have always been like sisters. Living and working for years on Cynthia's mother's sprawling farm, they've raised their families together. It was the perfect life until the fateful night that Alex finds Hannah, one of Cynthia's eighteen-year-old twins, inexplicably murdered in her own home.
Soon Alex's life is spiralling out of control as she questions everything she knows and everyone she trusted. And when local detective, Stefani Warner starts investigating Hannah's murder, one prime suspect quickly rises to the fore: Daniel, Alex's nineteen-year-old son.

As Alex fights to protect him, she starts to uncover disturbing truths. Friendship, family bonds, even her own marriage are not what she thought, and threats seems to come from every direction, both invisible and way too close to home...

Congratulations to client A. J. West, who last week saw his debut novel, The Spirit Engineer (perfect for Hallowe'en reading, by the way...) shortlisted for HWA Debut Crown Award 2022.

The 2022 HWA Crown Award winners will be announced at the HWA Awards party on 23 November, 2022.

Victoria Hawthorne's (aka Vikki Patis) second novel has been revealed!

The Darkest Night will be published by Quercus in April 2023, and is a bewitching story of family secrets - and the lengths some will go to protect them...

When Ailsa Reid becomes the subject of a trial by media after an incident at the school where she works, she escapes to the comfort of her grandparents' house in Fife. But she arrives to find her grandmother, Moira - recently diagnosed with dementia - has gone missing, and her grandfather, Rupert, gravely injured.

Desperate to ensure Moira's safe return, Ailsa must rely on the help of her estranged mother, Rowan, who abandoned her at birth. Tensions simmer between the two women as they attempt to piece together the lead-up to Moira's disappearance.

But in order to move forward and find Moira, both Ailsa and Rowan must go back to the beginning; to a story about witches burned on the hill above the Reid house centuries ago, and the curse laid upon the women that came after. Can they break the bonds of history in time to save their family? Or will the Reid curse be their undoing?

Also published this week was Abi Elphinstone's new picture book (illustrated by Fiona Woodcock), The Frost Goblin, which was also selected as 'one to watch' in yesterday's Sunday Times.

In Bertie Crash-Wallop's noisy family, it can sometimes feel like there is no room for a quiet boy like him. But when Bertie meets a family of goblins on the night of the deepest frost, is it possible he might make some magic and discover his own place in the world?
Join Bertie and the Frost Goblins on an exciting adventure in this beautifully moving story by the bestselling author of Sky Song and The Unmapped Chronicles, Abi Elphinstone, and renowned illustrator Fiona Woodcock. The perfect book for frosty winter's nights and cosy Christmas mornings.
And in more Abi news, her forthcoming Saving Neverland (January 2023, Puffin) was selected as Editor's Choice in The Bookseller:

"Elphinstone's reimagining of J. M. Barrie's classic is thrilling, imaginative and brilliantly reinterpreted for a modern audience, and features a young heroine who learns how to shake off the rest of the world and have an adventure."

Finally, we are thrilled for client Clare Whitfield (author of the acclaimed People of Abandoned Character), who has signed another two-book deal with current publisher, Head of Zeus.

Madeleine O’Shea, acting publishing director, acquired world all language rights from David Headley following an exclusive submission. The first in the deal, Elephants and Diamonds, will be published under the Apollo Fiction imprint in September 2024.

Based on a real-life all-female London crime gang, the Forty Elephants, the novel will follow 19-year-old Eleanor Mackridge,

who leaves behind her working-class family to reinvent herself as “Nell the Mack”.
