Orenda Books' Karen Sullivan has bought World English Language rights to the next book from The Spirit Engineer author, A. J. West, Mollies, in a deal negotiated by David Headley. The book is slated for hardback publication in June 2024. Mollies is set amidst the hidden world of Georgian London’s gay scene; Gabriel Griffin must uncover a traitor while risking his life in the most dangerous of ways: by falling in love. London, 1720. Grieving husband and father Gabriel Griffin lives a double life: ordinary carpenter by day, Lotty the giant molly in London by night. But when he falls for mysterious new arrival Thomas Wright, the danger becomes all too real. Someone is giving away the mollies’ secrets, and it’s down to Gabriel to unmask the traitor before they all hang. |
West added: "I'm so proud to have found such a bold and brilliant publisher for this story of forbidden love amidst extraordinary danger. Researching the real lives of London's gay men - known then as mollies - was a privilege. They were, against all odds and against society, true to themselves. I hope, with support from my amazing agent David Headley, that I've done them justice."
