SIX FIGURE PRE-EMPT FOR HARPERVOYAGER

6/3/2016

Natasha Bardon, Deputy Publishing Director at HarperVoyager, has pre-empted UK and Commonwealth (ex Canada) rights for the GODBLIND trilogy by Anna Stephens in a six-figure deal with Harry Illingworth at D H H Literary Agency.

Godblind is the first in a grimdark series reminiscent of Scott Lynch, Joe Abercrombie and Mark Lawrence. Set in a vast and intricate world, GODBLIND is filled with strong female characters, black comedy and themes including religious fanaticism as well as political machinations. One man, a Watcher, cursed to prophesise future cataclysms without the means to alter them, stands between the world and its utter destruction should the Red Gods return to power.

Natasha Bardon says: ‘I am absolutely thrilled that Anna is joining the Harper Voyager family. I’ve been looking in this area for a while and knew as soon as I started reading that this was exactly what I had been after – I had to have it. Anna is a superb talent, this book is fantastic and I couldn’t be happier to be publishing her.’

Anna Stephens says: ‘I'm absolutely thrilled to have signed with Harper Voyager UK. They're a fantastic publisher who work with some of my favourite authors and I can't wait to get down to business with Natasha and the team. It's great to be surrounded with people who are as enthusiastic about Godblind as I am, and I'm particularly grateful to my agent Harry and to Natasha for taking a chance on a debut author.’

Harry Illingworth says:  ‘Anna has a huge career ahead of her and I'm delighted that she will be joining the Harper Voyager list. Godblind is a superb debut novel that marks the arrival of a major new voice on the SFF scene. It's an ambitious story with powerful themes and Anna weaves multiple perspectives so expertly it's hard to recognise this as a debut. I've no doubt this gritty epic fantasy trilogy will capture the hearts and minds of readers the world over.’

German rights have also been pre-empted, sold by Louisa Pritchard Associates. Godblind will be published spring 2017.
