Nydia Hetherington

Born on Merseyside, Nydia grew up in Leeds via the Isle of Man. She moved to London in her early twenties to embark on an acting career but mostly worked in a record shop.

At thirty she moved to Paris to continue her theatre training before setting up her own theatre company. Returning to London almost a decade later, she did a Creative Writing degree at Birkbeck University. During this time, Nydia was diagnosed with the systemic autoimmune disease Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Her debut novel A GIRL MADE OF AIR, was published during lockdown in 2020. It was called ‘An Immensely assured first novel’ by the guardian and optioned by FilmNation in the U.S. Her second novel SYCORAX, was published in 2025 and went on to be shortlisted for The Encore Award and The Wilbur Smith Prize. Nydia lives in Kent with her husband and large, aged cat (or familiar).
