Stephen Gregory (Estate)
Agent: Broo Doherty
Stephen Gregory was the author of seven novels and one collection of short stories, with themes of the dark and disturbing, set against a background of wild nature.
His first book, The Cormorant, set in the mountains of a wintry Snowdonia, won the Somerset Maugham Award and was made into a BBC film starring Ralph Fiennes. The Woodwitch and The Blood Of Angels, and more recently Plague Of Gulls, also played out along the beaches of north Wales and in the deep dark forests, casting a frail and flawed human protagonist against birds and beasts and the hostile Welsh weather.
A few years ago he was summoned to Hollywood to write a screenplay with William Friedkin, the infamous director of The Exorcist. His more recent strange and beautiful books included The Perils and Dangers Of This Night, The Waking That Kills and Wakening The Crow.
